San Francisco Things To Do

Lombard Street – San Francisco, CA

Located in the Russian Hill district, Lombard Street is known as “the crookedest street in the world” because of its eight sharp turns. The steeply sloped street features Victorian mansions, beautiful flowers and a view of the bay. If you’re walking, there are stairways on either side of the street. From here, you can reach Coit Tower, Golden Gate Bridge and the Marina.

Union Street

This charming neighborhood features Victorian homes that have been transformed into boutiques, galleries and restaurants. Enjoy the many cafés, bars and attractions such as the Octagon House and the Vedanta Temple. Don’t miss the annual Union Street Spring Festival.

Marina

The Marina offers access to San Francisco Bay and Marina Green, a grassy playground with views of the Golden Gate Bridge. The area attracts joggers, sunbathers and kite fliers. Also in the area are the terracotta Palace of Fine Arts and Chestnut Street, offering shops, restaurants and bars.

Nob Hill

Featuring one of the best views of San Francisco Bay, Nob Hill features Grace Cathedral (a replica of Notre Dame in Paris), Huntington Park, Nob Hill Masonic Center and the Cable Car Museum.

Japantown

J-Town is centered on Japan Center, a five-acre complex of shops, theaters, sushi bars and restaurants at Post and Buchanan Streets. Visitors can see a five-tiered pagoda, Nihonmachi Mall (which imitates a traditional Japanese village), the Konko Kyo Temple on Bush Street, and the Webster Bridge midway. Buy Japanese vegetable seeds, traditional kimonos, silk calligraphy scrolls, tea ceremony utensils and other traditional items. The Cherry Blossom Festival in April — with taiko drumming, martial arts, calligraphy and a parade — is a must-see.

The Embarcadero

Scenic waterfront with miles of deep-water piers, ferry service and the Ferry Building, featuring upscale shops, dining and a farmers market. Walk the many promenades, enjoy a sunny picnic or simply people watch.

Presidio

At the end of Lombard Street in San Francisco, CA, you’ll find the lovely waterfront area known as the Presidio. This converted military post is now a national park and recreational area featuring gorgeous views, walking/bicycle trails, and historic and architectural treasures. Most activities are free.

Golden Gate Park

This 1,017-acre park features artificial lakes, riding trails, a golf course, tennis courts, hills, a playground and much more. The park runs from Haight-Ashbury to Ocean Beach. The main attractions include The Conservatory of Flowers, M.H. De Young Museum and the Japanese Tea Garden. Visitors will also find the Buffalo Paddock, the Morrison Planetarium, the Asian Art Museum, the Steinhart Aquarium and the Strybing Arboretum. For recreation, the park features tennis, pétanque, golf, fly-fishing, biking, inline skating, archery, handball and horseback riding.
